Today we are celebrating the life of an American hero, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King's pioneering work employing non-violence to achieve social change, transformed American society in profound ways. He received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to create a more just and equal society for all humankind.

We honor his legacy today with the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday and the new Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial.
