Field Trip to the KOCE-TV PBS Station & Golden West College

Today the Computer-Literate Cougars Service Club/Technology Class visited KOCE-TV and Golden West College.

We met after school and took a bus (with chocolate cupcakes for a snack!) to Goldenwest College. First, our wonderful guide, Eddie, from GWC's College Outreach office took us on a complete tour of a nearly empty campus (school is not currently in session). Everyone really liked the California Native Garden, the Olympic-size pool, and the sand volleyball courts!

After our campus tour, we were met by KOCE-TV 's own Janet English, the director of their educational program, for a tour of the Golden West College theater back stage, the KOCE-TV studio, and then to watch the filming of "The Real Orange" news program.

Everyone had a wonderful time touring the studio and observing the activities at a real-life television studio. The students were able to see how a daily news program is prepared, then they were able to attend a live filming! After the filming, the students were able to meet and take photos with the hosts of "The Real Orange," Ann Pulice and Ed Arnold.

On the way home, everyone was treated to dinner at Taco Bell paid for by the fundraising efforts of the Computer-Literate Cougars Service Club through their hard work operating the Spurgeon recycling program.

All students wrote essays about their experience and sent thank you letters to "Mr. Eddie" and the staff of KOCE-TV.

Special thanks to our dedicated tour guide, "Mr. Eddie" and Ms. English for a wonderful, interesting, and fun-filled afternoon...especially the frisbees!

Photos and students essays can be found on the Computer-Literate Cougars Service Club web page on the www.spurgeoncougars.us website!

And a really big, extra-special thanks to the TEAMS/Americorps program which provided the club with almost $400 to pay for our school bus. Thank you!!!!
