Welcome to Week 28 of Keyboarding!

Great job on the Benchmark 4 exam last week! Everyone is making good progress on their keyboarding lessons, and completing the spring graphic art project. The art projects being submitted are wonderful! Those of you who have submitted your permission slips have had their artwork published to Ms. Kline's home page. Remember, only one more Friday art day to complete your Spring art project. Keep up the good work!

Green STEMS Field Trip at Santa Ana College

Spurgeon Business Technology students were invited by Vital Link OC and Santa Ana Unified ROP/Career Tech Ed to learn about careers involving green technology. The students sat in on several interesting sessions about how to conserve energy, careers involving green technology, careers involving astronomy and space exploration. We also were able to participate in a scavenger hunt using a GPS! The entire day was fun and interesting and included a great lunch.

World Water Day

In 1993, the United Nations declared March 22 as World Water Day to raise awareness that "every year, more people die from the consequences of unsafe water than from all forms of violence, including war."

International Women's Day

Every year on March 8 the world celebrates International Women's Day. On this day, we honor the women of the world, their accomplishments and contributions to the worldwide community!

My hero for this year is CNN camerawoman, Margaret Moth. This amazing and courageous woman committed her life to documenting the world on camera. She bravely entered war zones, and other hazardous areas to keep us informed. During the Bosnian War in 1992, Ms. Moth was shot by a sniper and almost died. After two years of reconstructive surgery, Margaret insisted on returning to the career she loved, and back to war zone she felt compelled to document. Although she died yesterday, her legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Week 26

Welcome to Week 26 of Keyboarding!

Moving right along!
Everyone is making great progress on their keyboarding lessons. We are approaching another benchmark. You should be in lesson 21 this week. Keeping up with the pace of this course means that you are completing approximately one and a half lessons every week. If you are getting behind, Ms. Kline will lower your minimum speed required on your lessons, so that you are able to keep up. Remember, your goal is to reach 30 WPM by June. Keep up the good work!

Spurgeon "Day of Service" to Benefit the Tech Club

Today, several Spurgeon students, family members, teachers, and staff members, participated in a "Day of Service" by hosting a rummage sale to benefit the Spurgeon Technology Club. The Tech Club has been working very hard this year to raise money for a variety of activities, such as the annual field trip to the Alpine Conference Center in Blue Jay, California for a Team-Building High Ropes Challenge Course.

Although it was a very cold, windy, and stormy day, and the event was almost canceled due to rainy weather, we made over $55 which is enough money to send one student to camp...yeah!

Ms. Kline and the Tech Club would like to thank the 22 volunteers who helped out on Saturday, especially Mr. Erhuy, Ms. Fairley, Mr. Ellison, and all of our parent volunteers. We would also like to thank Ms. Janyce Cardenas and the Think Together program by allowing us to participate in their Saturday program, feeding us wonderful snacks, and providing us with custodial support and music...what a fun day!
